Hooked on History, you should have been a preacher, well said!

My dad would have been 99 in October this year, he was 18, nearly 19 when war broke out in '39. We lost him in 2016 in his 96th year. There will be very few still surviving.

Thanks for all the nice comments about Geordie, he would have been proud to hear them but I'm sure would have played them down.

    Ian.

I thought I should mention that I will be attending the grand reopening of the Bevrijding Museum, Zeeland, on the 25th October which is dedicated to the Battle of the Scheldt and remembering Geordie and my dad and their part in the battle. Dad told me he and his snipers were the first of the KOSB to land on Uncle Beach, behind No4 Commando. He also said that when they got into Flushing, there was nothing to be seen of No4 Commando, they'd "disappeared".

I found out recently when I was at the KOSB museum in Berwick, that there are now no surviving WWII veterans from the 4th Batt, KOSB.

We musn't forget that The Battle of the Scheldt was a Canadianicon operation and many Canadians made the ultimate sacrifice. The Dutch people there, still show their gratitude.

"Here is hoping he did not loose the final battle but simply moved one to a place where he will not only be welcomed by his creator but by many of his friends who paid the ultimate sacrifice all those years ago who's memories I am sure he carried with him from then until now.
May he rest in peace in the place where they have seen the end of war"

Really beautifully put, one of the finest epitaphs I've ever heard....
