    Trinity Site

At one time the US Army conducted tours to Trinity Site. I do no know whether they still do. I shall try to post some pictures.

Welcome back Cosine yes I wonder how many Rads they are getting as its only been 74 years almost since they detonated Trinity, much to Trumans disgust Uncle Joe Stalin knew the bomb was a sucess a Truman was going to announce it at the conference they were at to show just how powerful the US had become.

Well this post lead down the rabbit hole of YouTube videos and articles to read.

It's interesting to see a photo of the Plutonium being delivered to the site. Two guys with no safety gear pulling a lead box out of the backseat of a car. I'm surprised they weren't shirtless.......

My uncle was a nuclear chemist on the Manhattan project in Oak Ridge, TN. I grew up a ridge over from nuclear city. Might be the only town with a retired nuclear reactor sitting on the side of the road.

It's open to the general public two days a year - the first Saturday of April and the first Saturday of October. https://www.wsmr.army.mil/Trinity/Pages/Home.aspx

Same meat, different gravy....... While I was in the Army in Australiaicon, they were clearing out the bomb testing ranges at Maralingra. Are those ranges open to the public now? The poms brought in a LOT of heavy plant and machinery to clear the site. And then buried it there to save bringing the contaminated stuff back!

One of my heroes is my friend Jim Campbell , one of the last living 1st Marine Raiders . He and his best friend was on Tinian when the Indianapolis delivered " Little Boy ' . LB was placed in a shed on the airstrip overnight and Jim and his friend was assigned as guards . Because his friend had a sore foot , he walked the perimeter all night and his friend stood watch inside . They were there to watch the loading of the bomb . The Commander then determined they were a security risk and could no longer go on patrols :>) . They came back after the war and Jim spent a month in CA. visiting friends and relatives and was packing to move back east to his friend as they were going to build motorcycles of their own design when his friend's wife called him . His friend had died , in his 20s , from Leukemia . :>(
He is now in his 90s , and his best friend's name is lost to the fog of time . May he RIP .
    Chris

lots of radiation. John Wayne made a movie where he played Genghis khan, and the entire film crew spent 2 months down wind of that sight walking in the desert. 80-85 % of EVERYONE who worked on that movie died from the most bizarre tumors and cancers.
