    C3a1 Leupold Scope

Looking for information on the use of Leupold scope on C3a1. The Leupold Mark4 16X M1icon scope was purchased to replace the failing 10X Unertl at some point during the program. Does anybody know when this was initiated? How many scopes were purchased? How where they mounted? I've got some general information however would like to hear from our members.

What kind of "general information" ?

the 16x Leupold was mounted on the McMillan "C15" ...not the C3A1.

McMillan TAC-50 C15 .50 BMG 29" Fluted Barrel, OD Green, Limited Package

Difficult to mount a 30mm tube in 1" rings I would have thought...

here is a "failing" Unertl in some valley somewhere that I stole from the interweb...

I heard lots of chatter from snipers who served late 90's to 2010 that 16x was used on C3a1. Never could get any info on the mounting system..rail and rings since scope has a 30mm tube. I shrugged this off as just another story however recently was shown a training document for the C3a1where this is detailed. I've since acquired the training manual.....B-GL-392-005/FP-001 by National Defence.

    Ron,
From the Parker Hale records I have, I had a quick look and the dates November 1988 and March 1989 both refer to change of scopes for the refurbished C3A1 rifles back from refurbishment, does that fit some how to what you have? Sadly they were still stuck with the UNERTL if you read on:

Also found on the attached paper reference on the left to tthe "existing KHALES telescope will be replaced with a UNERTL 10 inch telescope to be provided by DND"

    Have you ever seen a C3A1 or a photo of a C3A1 fitted with a Leupold 16x ?

What year is your training manual?

I reviewed the 2006 copy of B-GL-392-005/FP-001 and I agree that it is not clear, except that again you are mixing up the optics of:

the MRSW (commonly known as the C3A1) - especially before the adoption of the C14 "Timberwolf":

    a. Medium Range Sniper Weapon (MRSW). The
MRSW 7.62 mm x 51 mm provides snipers with a
weapon that can deliver highly accurate fire
against point targets at ranges up to 800 m.

Officially only designated as the "Long Range Sniper Weapon" before the adoption of the "Timberwolf" as the "C14" when the McBros (not McMillan) "LRSW" became designated the "C15":

    b. Long Range Sniper Weapon (LRSW). The
LRSW 0.50 calibre provides snipers with a
weapon that can deliver highly accurate material
    neutralization fire.
