    Mauser bolts, gas venting

    I know the model 98 had the improved gas venting built in, and that the Yugoicon model 24 family had even better built in safety for venting and ruptured cases.

    The pre 1898s do have that pesky issue of venting directly into the shooters eyes. But given the fact that MOST modern rifles designed and built since oh, 1950 have the same issue is it really something to be worried about?

    Some models of pre 1898 mausers have a design style that isn't met by modern production guns,
