MKII Front sight hood screw thread?

I recently aquired a 1905 Ross (today!) and it is missing one front sight hood screw.

I'm assuming these aren't available from what I have seen, but please correct me if i'm wrong!

If I was to attempt to make one... do any of you guys happen to know what thread they are? I have a machinist friend that may be able to do it.

    Thank you!

I find 5-40 works for the FS hood and also the sight base on the MkIII.

There are a few outfits that make screws to order, even small orders.
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

I sent him some 5-40 flat head slotted. I have remnants of a box of 100. The originals were oval head slotted i think but they do work. I'm guessing he got them but never heard back from him.

I chuck the 5-40s in a lathe and round the head slightly.

Good job. You can remove the galvanizing with a quick hydrochloric acid bath and then blue them by heating cherry red and dropping them in used motor oil. Perfect.
