The only church in the UK to be in collision with an aeroplane

I recently came across this old postcard, in my attic, of a church with a good part of it's steeple cropped off. Clearly it is a vintage postcard and the caption at the bottom tells us that the church had a "coming together" with an aeroplane in 1918. Looking online, I discovered that, unsurprisingly, the pilot sadly lost his life in the accident and I did think it surprising that anyone would think it acceptable to produce and sell a postcard concerning a fatal air accident. The link below tells us (scroll down to point 8) that this is the only time an aircraft has ever flown into a church in the UK which I do find surprising given the number of churches across the country. There have, of course, been churches that have been damaged by aerial bombing.

The church is located in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire, Englandicon.
