I remembered when this subject came up that some very late Winchester carbines, that appeared otherwise original, came with rotary safeties without the "normal" E.W marking on them. One of the rotary safeties mentioned, along with others (E.I. and J.A.O. for instance) had the H.T. marking on it. Now, that could mean something or nothing without proof Winchester acquired rotary safeties from other sources and used them during production. However, with saying this, I tend to think the H.T. safeties are, without additional proof, wartime produced items.

Charlie, Your pictures are not showing for me. But the rear sight as made by Howa was different then one for the USGI carbines. It was a flip sight but also had windage adjustment on it too.

Charlie: Hope your surgery worked out. My little brother had a similar incident when he was an infant. This was about 1951. Nobody could figure out what was the matter until we ran into a really good Dr. He opened him up, put things in order and took out the appendix while he was in there. It was like God bent down and kissed my brother's forehead, he could have died so easily.

    Thx for asking Dave,
I'm fine, just about a 3" cut and a few stitches. Had flipped part of my lower intestine.... I think from tossing firewood on the trailer. Was out the next day about noon. Worst part was having to stay on a liquids only diet for about a week in part because of a scheduled Colon o rooter test.... All went well.
Could have been much worse had I not listened to the Wife. Me thinking I'd pulled a muscle or groin.
And YES I got the 'Told You So' look from her !

I had a very dear friend die from such an incident. He was skiing and crashed hard. This guy was a stud, no fatso. His intestine apparently had a pinhole and was leaking tiny amounts of junk into his gut. They couldn't find any reason why he was having the issues. When they did, it was too late and he died.
I had my appendix out a couple of years ago. They did 3 tiny entrances, blew me up with air and pulled the intestine out through one of the holes. I was out of the hospital in one day and playing golf a week later.
I heard an Israeli Trauma doctor talking about surgery a while back. This guy was considered to be the best gunshot surgeon in the world. The question was posed: how can you operate in some of the filthiest conditions imaginable and have the patient live? He answered that the absolute worse place to operate on someone would be an American hospital.

The wife laughs at me for being a germ a phobic.
But I can guarantee if I go in a hospital or for a Dr. visit I'll end up with something!

My Orthopedic has pulled off 13 surgeries on me over the years.
He told me repeatedly the 3 main killers:
    1 Infection
    2 Anesthesia
3 Him being too hung over

    Don't we always??
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!
