A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Hi Charlie, interesting pictures. I think I have seen the first one before. The stock looks like an I cut Winchester with an M8 rifle grenade launcher. Second pic type two BB low cut stock and bolo machete. She might be a partisan and part of the resistance. Last pic does looks like a rotary safety too me, and the POW'S have some pretty poor footwear.

I could never get the picture clarity I wanted, but if that is a rotary safety then it appears to be in a non-firing safe position.

Also, Iv'e seen the first picture before, but not the second to best of my recollection.

I magnified it to 400 % and it does look like a flip safety but then lowered it down to 200 and could then see it was part of the trigger guard that appeared to be the flip safety. Just above it was the push safety.

My dad had an Inland with an adjustable rear sight on Iwo. No bayonet lug, though. He had a M1icon Garand bayo issued as a knife. He was an NCO and also had an S&W Victory model .38 instead of a .45.

Issued as a substitute standard leaving the .45s for issue to the front line guys or issued when they ran out of .45s.

He actually asked to have the .38 instead of the 45! He said he never could master the 45 and could not hit "the broad side of a barn" with the 1911, even though he qualified expert with the rifle.

Those Victory model .38s were very accurate. I have a VS model myself and refer to it as a radar gun. It shoots far better than I can! It was issued to a Navy pilot and the holster still bears the Lt.'s name.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

I follow him there...I do far better with a DA S&W than a .45 and I have them both.
