    PayPal Banishment

    Hello all,

Just thought I'd give a heads up.

PayPal does not allow the use of their services for, let's call it, "gun stuff."

And they mean it! I have been banned permanently and they are holding my funds for 180 days.

This is not a "bash PayPal" post because I knew very well I was going against their terms of use despite doing everything legally, federally speaking. This is all my fault so no ill will on my part.

So, yeah, follow the rules, folks

That's interesting, some four or five years back I organized to sell a 1928 Thompson dewat to a young man in Quebec. He demanded that we do the financial transaction through Paypal and wouldn't hear of another plan. I had to raise an account and transfer funds through it to him, he paid the seller fees as well as the $4000 for the gun. It took the normal stumbling time to do everything but there was no issue of any kind...except the long times they take. As soon as business was concluded, I was only too happy to cancel the account...

But, I had no issues with them being dicks...
    Regards, Jim

To be truthful, I find this validating. I’ve done a LARGE volume of sales this year..and now it seems I’ve done large enough for them to take notice.

So really it’s a compliment, right? Haha.

Apparently eBay is trialing a new program where eBay themselves will act as the payment processor. I’m trying to get into that program. For now I can’t sell anything on eBay. They accept alternate means of payment but PayPal must also be an option.

For now, all my business will go to GunBroker which is much cheaper anyway! All’s well that ends well.

I wish that I could say that this is the 1st time that I've heard of something like this. A friend got the ban and his money held for 6 months. Is there any way around this??

    Later 42rocker

"...they are holding my funds for 180 days..." That'd be a crime in most places. However, PayPal is/was owned by the same anti-firearm ownership people that own E-Bay.

Yep, I agree with Sunray. Keep patronizing those outfits and it's like slowly cutting your own throat.

From what I gathered their decision of “banishment and funds held for 180 days” was pretty non-negotiable.
Again, I’m not bashing PayPal or their particular political slant.
I know I was doing something against the rules and now I’ve been punished. My bad.
    Word to the wise!

I'm wondering how PayPal knew this was a "gun" transaction?

I haven’t looked too closely at it but I would imagine that one of my buyers listed something obvious in a memo line.
“For the Winchester 1894 from GunBroker.”
    Or something like that.
