    Hollywood BooBoo

Watched "Saving Private Ryan" again this rainy afternoon, what a movie! I have seen it at least five times but it enthralls every time.

The only glitch I saw was the Army sniper rifle with the big USMC Unertl. The scope on his '03 kept changing from shot to shot. Otherwise, wonderful!

Well, he did bring two optics to that gig...but yes, they would magically change.

My question, did the USMC ever use the Springfield 1903A4 sniper rifle ?

Not to nit pick, but I saw an error while watching yesterday too. In the scene where they are hand throwing mortar shells as they ran out of grenades... at about the time Pvt Damon hands Captain Hanks the 3rd or 4th shells...the captain clearly has at least 2 grenades hanging off his belt.
I guess bifocals do help, as I never noticed this before!

You know what they say in that Christmas movie... so don't try it. When that safety pin comes flying out it may poke you or you buddy's eye out...

The only sniper rifle the U.S. Army would have had at that point was the 1903A4 with the Weaver telescope. Too boring for the big screen I reckon but I thought at the time that it was glaring mistake. I think the big scope he was using is a Lyman Targetspot but could be wrong. The other looked to be an M82 which was also incorrect for that time frame. Spielburg had to throw in the Carlos Hathcock kill shot too like just about every other movie with a sniper involved since everyone learned about it.
