'artyldro1' - No SRS hit for your Kragicon, #112404, in the Krag serial number tables, contained in Frank Mallory's, "Krag Rifle Story", 2nd edition. (Closest numbers listed are #112192 & #112460).

Your model 1898 rifle was likely assembled around July, 1898.

It appears wood has been cut from the front edge of your hand-guard. The wood should extend a the way to the back edge of the barrel-band.

First thing I saw but thought maybe I was wrong...can't imagine why except if it had been damaged and that cleaned it up.

It was explained to me that it was a common method to repair a minor crack and prevent it from getting worse.

If my research is right July was the first month of production for the 1898?
