    Found: 1903 Springfield Sporter

I recently pickup a M48 Mauser the peolpe seeling it also have a 1903 Springfiled Sporter for $200.00 I was thinking about buying it for a shooter just because I don't like taking out my 1903 Springfield to often snd I like to shoot like to shoot 30-06 more often. I just can't make up my mind. 200 is a good price in Peoples Public of California but I'm still torn on it I mean after all I could pick up a Savage for a 100 more, but then its not a Springfiled either... See my delema, I love the old girls.

$200 would be good around here if the bore is good. Always surprising in the manner people have done the sporting mods. The front sight key is in place, how did that work?

I guess that’s one of my dilemmas, I have not seen this rifle in person, its in another state. I was told the bore is bright and I’m sure it is as I have purchased a number of milsurps from that have all need as told. I was wondering hold this is getting site on target. There are no iron sites or treaded holes for scope mounts. Makes me wonder if this was an unfinished sporter

I bet they cut the rear sight sleeve off and slipped the front sight off...looks to have been cold blued. Just can't wait to see how the front sight key is holding where it is. More pics once you get it...if... Also looks like it could be returned to original.

Bolt looks a little rough but I'd give you $200.00 for it, if the barrel was in good shape and you were not happy with it. Like browningautorifleicon said think this was a work in progress to turn it into a Sporter.

Hard for me to tell, in the barrel pic, but is that a 8-42 date?

I thought about that but from the looks of the picture, they worked the barrel to try and make it polished/smooth. Action still looks like not much was done to it, I do like the fact the receiver hasn't been drilled and tapped. I think I might pick it up I don't think I can lose money on it at $200.00. The seller has never misled or exaggerated on the condition of the rifles he's sold me and I've bought 5 milsups from him so far. So when he tells me the bore is in great condition I'll believe him. I'll put up pictures once I get it, but it's going to be a couple of paydays first.

I also see from my last post is not good to type a post on your cell phone while sitting in an all-hands meeting.

Yeah, it is! but I should have the exact same one in my parts bin if I needed to change it, I doubt I would though - it adds to the character of the rifle. I would definitely put it though parkerzing though, the finish is frightful.

Yes please post more pics when you get it would love to get deals like that.

S/N put's it in the Aug-Sept 1942 range, right about the time they started 03A3 production, so that would help on parts if you decide to go back to original config.

If you glass bead blast and park the whole thing, that look will go away again. It'll be back to military..
