The main ceremonies were today in Normandy; the one yesterday was the British ceremony; possibly to allow President Trump and other's to be able to attend both.

Me too and it got me checking the calendar carefully just to make sure that I hadn't somehow "lost a day without resizing it".

The memorials yesterday were held at an embarkation location and emphasized the launch of the invasion. The memorials today were held at the location of the landings and emphasized that.

The Brits celebrated at Pegasus Bridge (the new one) today. That bridge was the site of the first British parachute landings.
