    M1917 Bayonet

I have this M1917 bayonet, it haven't the clearing hole.

Could it be a P1913 left without marks and subsequently stamped with the American marks?

    Any opinion is appreciated.

Early M1917 bayonets did not have the clean out hole. yours appears to been made as a U.S. M1917, not an over stamped Patn '13.

giove,... The link you gave above to Gary Cunningham's "Bayonet Points" was great! Gary stated in his write-up that most of the early U.S. M1917 bayonets without the clean out hole had them added at repair or as a modifcation, and that unmodified ones are 'uncommon'. Good find! I'll have to check and see if I have one....

It wasn't Gary's website. He ran a monthly page on Frank Trzaska's US Military Knives Bayonets Machetes site.
