    Soviet M38 Carbine

Finally knocked one of my top ten off the list last weekend. M38 in a proper stock. Obviously a postwar refurbishment but in great condition. Bore is counterbored as most are. Serial numbers all appear original but the floor plate has been renumbered. A couple small stock repairs.

My '41 Izhevsk's been counter bored as well for a few mm's. It's also a refurb (probably by East Germanyicon), but is matching on the main parts. Enjoy!

I just bought a WRECK of a rifle, that's in the mail to me right now for $125.00. Its a parts rifle as nothing matches. Don't know why I bought the thing, I guess something I can play with and not feel bad about it and I'm curious. I sure don't need another Mosin. Let's see what it is when it get here... Can't lose money on it at that price; bolts themselves go for almost that.

    Boy is it ugly.. LOL

It doesn't look that bad. Looks like a rifle that escaped the refurbishment process and/or went to Vietnam.

I have a 1961 Chinese Type 53 Carbine that came from Vietnam guy who just about gave it to me was my mentor when I served in the US NAVY SEABEE.

CM1 Ringer was his name and he was getting ready to retire and move out of state; he was taking guns with me and another guy and said that if we were interested he would sell us a couple of rifles that he captured when he was in Vietnam. The next day he showed up with a Germanicon Mauser and this Mosin. I was really interested in the Mauser but the other guy got to it before me. When Ringer gave me the rifle he told us the story of how he got it.

They were building a small firebase when they started taking 'sniper' (used loosely) fire from somewhere out on the perimeter. After a while, they located the shooter in a tree. They open up on him with the M60 and when they sent out a detail to check the area and the shooter; Ringer grabbed his weapon, the Mosin, and brought it home as a war trophy or whatever you want to call it. He told me he hadn't done much with the rifle and mostly sat in his closet since he came back from the war; which showed because of the rust. Just the same I handed him $20.00 for the rifle and brought it home. I did fire it once with surplus ammo and a long *** string but after that cleaned and never did anything with it.
