    1909 Bolo Knife

Finally got me a mean looking US Military knife for my collection.

Stole this from the auction. It was really poorly listed.

What do you guys think? Pictures are from the auction company and aren't great. Should have it in my hands in a week or so.

Excellent example. Not new which is what I want. I'd like to steal one too...a bit of oil and touch up and it'll look great. Let's see when it arrives of course...

"Large antique knife" kind of describes it

What's with the serial number on these? Did they actually track which knife was issued out? And if so...why??

Very nice example and with a complete scabbard. Handle all there with no cracks.

Same as SA bayonets and RIA blades. Just for records OR if someone was anal enough there was a serial for you...they didn't use them for accountability as far as we know.

    This finally came in.
Some auction companies refuse to do in house shipping. A third party must then pick it up, eventually, and do the shipping.
It's costly for their customers and also increases the time-to-ship many fold. Drives me crazy.

Anyway, rant aside, this is in pretty good shape. Some pits, which you can see in my third picture above. The belt loop is also split at the top which is kind of a bummer.

Cost plus shipping for this and one other item was approximately $170. I think I'll get about $100 for the other item.
Pretty nice price and it looks really mean alongside my 1917 Eddystone.

    Happy hunting!

I have one too that I got for free and cleaned up to find it was really quite nice under the grim and surface oxidation. It is marked 1912 SA. When I cleaned the handle, I found orignal WW1 unit stamps for "2d PA FA", "BAT C". My best attempts at research has led me to believe this was orginally a 2d Pennsylvania FA, Penn National Guard issued bolo just prior to them becomming the 108th Field Artillery, 28th Div. Quite a storied history for that unit - makes the knife that much cooler to have. I would post pics but I dont know how

    Sounds really cool!
I'd like to see it if you ever figure out the pics.

I recently came across another in slightly better shape with stronger stamps in the steel.
Sold this one off and am keeping the "new one."

They sure are wicked looking blades!
