Yes, we had the M113 with 81mm mounted. We never saw them here, just in Germanyicon. Yes, they cracked the frames of the M113 and nothing could be done. The US had them as well and 4.2" as well but can't imagine a different result. After that we left mortars on the ground.

The Ratel ICV 81 mortar version worked for decades without a problem. Steel hull/frame/mount/etc so it shouldn't break.

The 432's were steel armour and it still cracked. The biggest killer was the shock loading to the suspension system that killed it

All that I saw in BATUS and you'd think I'd know that. I wasn't aware...

But back to lost armour in Oz. While I was there the pommy RE's and RAustEngineers were clearing out the atomic bomb ranges in Maralingra(spelling?) and Christmas Island. The engineers had a huge amount of Commer based 4WD tippers and workshop vehicles, Bedfords, Land Rovers and 6 wheel AEC's with big Coles cranes mounted on them. Nothing was returned as it was probably super toxic by the end of 3 years and everything was left there. Nobody seemed too interested in the blokes seemingly....... Maybe someone in Oz could nip out there one evening after work and see if it's still there

There is this true story of Centurion tank 169041 which was at Woomera:

This Atomic Tank survived a nuclear test, then went to war
