Brass model of BB-62 USS New Jersey.

Came across this on the way to gamble some of the kid's birthday money in A.C. It's at the Farley rest area on the A.C Expressway for anybody local headed to the shore.
The whole thing is brass, thick brass too. It was used to test radio antennas, the photo of the sign explains it.

Warpig, That is truly impressive. Thankfully it was not sold of for scrap after the tests. These wartime items weren't appreciated until years later. Look at the warbirds that were sold for scrap for pennies on the dollar. Salt Flat

The model shows harpoon (1977) missle launchers and a phalanx ciws (1980) so I'm not sure that the sign is correct as that would date the model into 1980 at the earliest.

She was towed to refit in spring 1981 and back in service during 1982.

This was the refit that removed some of the 5" gun turrets and added harpoon, tomahawk missles and the Phalanx CIWS system.
