I recently read "Spearhead" and was really kind of shocked at how many guys survived a direct hit. Seems like an anti tank round either bouncing around or even just piercing the shell would be fatal to all...

The photo doesn't show anti tank holes. Hatches are open, indicating crew getting out or souvenir hunters. Both tracks peeled back, indicating front explosions, possibly mines. Damage to right front indicates main impact, probably high explosive. Little indication of fire. Driver's hatch missing.

The guy is looking in through a hole created by something devastating, it cooked the whole tank. It bent the drive sprocket like it was melted plastic and blew the drivers hatch clean off. The others are open same, the loaders hatch is black inside. I'll bet it cooked up and flamed like a rocket turned upside down... That think took a direct hit from something in the right front sprocket.

Quite possibly the Engineers may have come out at night and blown it up to prevent recovery efforts.

Until it brews up (or the twirly thing on top comes off), you are never certain that your round did enough damage to knock it out. Send another round into it for good luck. Lots of Chinese Type 59II and similar got extra ventilation as we went by. Probably unnecessary but who wants to risk it.
