    Ultimate L42 accessory

Anyone interested in the ultimate L42 accessory.., the IIW night sight, should be advised that last week or so I saw TWO advertised on THAT site! One was the US spec type with the adjustment in the mount and the other was the UKicon MoD Rank SS20 L1A1 to A7 type, both in boxes but the SS20 one had an anti-tank gun mount fitted (yep, they were tough bits of kit!)! The anti tank mount isn't a problem because it is screwed on the L42 adaptor screws straight on.

I found them on the UK THAT site under 'L1A1' and again under 'nightvision' as you'd expect. Don't know what they went for as I was away in Dusseldorf/Germanyicon when they finished.

Just goes to show that they are still around and available. Don't worry about the big dumpy 7.5v batteries...............................

Hi - just fyi Peter - the Anti-tank one went for £430 and the other for £500. I suspect if you'd been able to advise in the listings they'd have gone for more.

    Peter,

Did the Brits use the A/N PVS 1 with the L42A1?

I don't know what the US designation was Marty but yes, we did use an old 1st gen US NV initially. It (the US version) is amply illustrated in the night vision user handbook if you need to see it, handbook available from BDLicon if I remember correctly.

The PROBLEM with the US NV was that it was zeroed on the bracket which made it what we would call 'marginal' for keeping its zero. The later, mid 70/s early 80's onwards RANK night sight was zeroed via a moving plate reticle INSIDE the sight which meant that it had a solid mount but made it a VERY expensive sight.

Still, it shows that these things are available if you want to look for the ultimate accessory. Even if you get an old heap, there are still a few spare parts kicking around for the needy

I forgot to say, but we also used the old OUDE de DELFT Dutch night vision too. This was a bit smaller but again, had an internal zeroing mechanism. We were BOTH (us and the Iraqis) using these during the first Gulf war!

There was an "oud Delft" one on that infamous auction site that rhymes with 'pay' a few months ago. Went for around $500. A gulf war bring-back no doubt.

Happy to say that we're finally nearing completion on the repro IWS brackets; many thanks for the help on that Peter!

They have proven to be quite a complex job. The shop making them are by no means inexperienced, but they say it was one of the most tricky jobs they have undertaken. Them moving shop halfway through the job didn't speed things up either.

I'll post full info when we have the final costing etc., in a few weeks.

Hello, I've had one for some years, it's a L1A1/A7, infantry reticle and it came with both knurled and ABC cover. The case is marked L1A3, and fits the ABC type cover. It's complete with the L3Ex1 AR15/M16icon mount, however I'm missing the L42 mount. Is that the one being reproed?.
I've shot it at night on my SLRs, and it works fine.

Snorli, there was an article on these Rank SS20 IIW sights published here about 6 months ago that you might find interesting. No doubt someone'll tell you/us how to bring it up. There is a set of front ocular lens covers on THAT auction site. There should be 4x mounting brackets in the case. SLR, Carl Gustav anti tank, GPMG/Bren and AR15/M16icon

VERY sought after bits of kit
