Carbine Sling Sperts Forward

May be in here somewhere. I am weak in several areas, but carbine slings are one of my best weaknesses.

I have a nice GI sling that is not marked, but the hardware is. The snap has a mark as follows, "United Carr Boston Mass". The D-clip is stamped "IRT" and 9-62 in the press-mark indention.

I take this to be a Vietnam era sling manufactured by Carr Fasteners?

Elementary for a sling-spert I am sure, but not for me.

As you may know by now,
United Carr only made fasteners not any Web gear.
Your sling would be post WWII. The IRT stamp may be a partial miss for MRT which is the Mildew Treatment, 9-62 date of treatment.
Post WWII D tips were made from steel or brass. One contract in the 50's for brass tips. Most brass d tips were made in the early 60's per Bill Ricca.

Edit to add from Bill Ricca:
"After WWII I have been able to find only one maker, but there were at least 4 different contracts from 1951-1964. I suspect there was more than one maker, but I cannot confirm any."

Just me thinking after reading MR. Ricca's information,
I'd imagine if a D tip were steel it was made shortly after WWII.
Brass tips from the one contract during the 50's or the early 60's contracts.

I've seen Vietnam era pictures with D tip slings in use.
I also recall pictures of D tips during the 67 Detroit riots.

Just to add a vey little bit to what Painter said, the MRT means specifically "MILDEW RESISTANT TREATMENT"; thus MRT. Treatment was instituted post WWII due to the rotting of web materials in the jungles during the war.
