    New member/owner with questions

hello everyone. I've inherited a few guns recently, one of which is this Beretta Gardone that I'm looking to learn more about. Can anyone here take a look and give me their thoughts on what they see? Model? Date of manufacture? I really want to know more about the symbol on the butt stock. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you!
    Paul

Pkocke, This is a Model 38 Cal. 6.5x52mm made in 1940 by Beretta. This is the same model as the Oswald rifle. The stock serial matches the rifle. Nice collectible WWII rifle.

The symbol on the butt stock is an arsenal mark. In that it matches the rifle, it's probably Beretta Gardone but it's too hard for me to make it out. It probably says and perhaps you can confirm by looking at it closely:

BERETTA on the top, GARDONE v.t. on the bottom, 1940 on the top middle and XVIII on the bottom middle. Two little stars separate each end of the top and bottom outer ring

Thanks for the information gents. Would any of you know what the original arsenal symbol looked like? I can't seem to find one on google images.

Aragorn243: So from top to bottom it reads:

    1940-XVIII
    Beretta
    Gardone
    UB8896

I think that's correct based on the last 2 pics

You pretty much need to have a book for Italianicon arsenal marks. They also changed over the years so the circle like you have may not be the same for a rifle 5 years older. I have a lot of Carcanos so I picked up a couple of the available books.

This is one that I have but not the one I got the information from although it probably has it also:

    https://www.amazon.com/Model-1891-Ca.../dp/0764350811

This is the one I pulled the information from but I believe it is currently out of print:

Book on Carcano Rifles Iron Legions
