Odd US MIlitary Canteen: 2 Quart Jeepo?

I found this canteen at a garage sale today. Don't think I've ever seen one like this. It is made of hard OD plastic and measures 7" in diameter by 3-1/2" thick. It has marked on one side "ABCON CORP. 2 QUART JEEPO FREEHOLD, N.J." The canteen appears to have been made during the Vietnam War, but I'm not sure.

I’m seeing them selling for about $25. Most sellers are calling them “Vietnam era.”

I've not seen one like this before but there does seem to be several similar ones online. I would say that the age of this particular example as "questionable".

Better than calling them "Civil war era", I suppose.

I did find an Abcon Corporation in California, not N.J. They are a plastics molding and packaging company. Of course, it's after 5:00 PM there so nobody's answering the phone.

    http://www.abconproducts.com/products/

Abcon was also a manufacturer of standard US Army injection-molded canteens manufactured after 1963, according to this Facebook thread:

The CAGE code shows them to be a vendor other than manufacturer, with a cancelled status code.

Deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole.
