A picture I remember well from the time. Never until now noticed the little snub and cartridges at his feet...like the ones the aircrews carried.

Is that the pound cake in a can behind him? One thing that was edible in C-rats.

I can't tell from there, could be the beans... Not sure I'd want one now either. We'd need five days in the field before we'd enjoy them again. I liked the fruit...

Pound cake came in a shorter can. As said before it could be "Beanie Weenies" or some other scrumptious delicacy or even a can of fruit.

We had another name for "Ham and Lima Beans" that I won't say in mixed company.

I can't say that I have ever heard the term "Lema Bean" in the UKicon but looking on google it would appear to be the same thing as "Butter Bean" which I have heard off.

Going off thread a bit, your link woke dormant memories, not that I ever ate C rations but the comments in the article could just have easily referred to Britishicon rations of the 70s and 80s. Just to prove how sad I am, I still have around 6 or so of the P38 can openers. Wouldn't use anything else to open a can.
