    No32 Scope Paint & Screws

    Hello Milsurps,

I have sourced a No32 Mk1 turret box, complete with wheels and all the bits to fit on my No42.

Its missing the 8 screws to fit the side plates on. Its a Mk1, could you please tell me what size and length the 8 screws are? Im gonna guess 4BA 1/4? But what head type?

What type of paint was used on the the turret box? Satin, matt or gloss? Cellulose?

    Any help appreciated.

The four screws that fit each of the index plates to the turret housing on Mk1 & Mk2 scopes are 8 BA cheese heads. Can't remember how long off hand, but 1/4" would I'm sure do the job.

The originals are steel but I often fit brass replacements. Once they're in you can suncorite them anyway...

Decided to paint with satin black enamel, will weather it all after to match the scope.

The pin that allows the scope to locate in the mount, do you know the diameter of it??

It's 4BA grub screw. Forget the precise diameter of the piece that projects but it's around 140 to 150 thou. I'll drop a micrometer across a couple shortly & come back to you, (unless someone beats me to it!).

Top man!! Not an off the shelf style grub screw im guessing, will try to make one.

Edit: Just had a look through sum old bits i have for my steam engine.

Found a few 4BA studs, hopefully machine to length and cut in a slot.

Still interested to know diameter incase the shank isn't thick enough.

    Thank you!!

Just measured two & one was 149 thou & the other 150 exactly. The way I do it is take a 4 BA cheese head screw & turn the head down to that diameter. The turned down head is perfectly long enough to function as an anti-rotation peg & it is already slotted.

Sorry, first photo got in by accident. Too many restoration projects....!

You restore No32's? Looks like a fun project or 2! The locating pins on the index plates to locate in the turret box, is that standard or a modification?

    Thanks for the info.
