    GCA Convention

Heading to Springfield, MA. tomorrow AM for the GCAicon convention at the Armory Historic Site. Prior to that, we will meet with the people at Springfield Technical College that now occupies the old Armory campus to talk about endowing a John C. Garandicon scholarship. We are eager to leave a legacy behind when the Garand Collectors Association runs out of new things to say. If anybody here is going, please find me and introduce yourself!

Is the GCAicon staff going to be at the hotel for some kind of check in process?

Just got back, GREAT convention. SA is holy ground for us and we saw it all. Curator Alex MacKenzie Kept bringing rare stuff down from the upstairs storage for people to examine up close, way cool. Gus Fisher gave a class on M1icon maintenance that was fantastic, Mark Johnson talked about what was going on at CMPicon. The guest speaker at dinner was Bill Albrecht, one of the most decorated soldiers of the Nam war (3 Silver Stars, 3 Hearts, more), who related the story of his heroic defense and evacuation of Firebase Kate detailed in the book and TV documentary "Abandoned in Hell" -- wow.

Had a great time at the convention! It was awesome to meet you, the other directors, and
many members. I hope to attend more in the future.
