    L1A1 telescope marking

Sorry if you already know this but being a newbie and all that......

The earliest No32 telescopes converted to L1A1 spec carried provisional markings. So if you have this marking on your L1A1 you know that your scope is from the first pre-conversion era. You'll also know that it';s well used to the point of being worn out!!!!!

It'll be marked on the left side, below the old markings and serial number where it is pretty much invisible when in the bracket. As you are aware, later the engraving was moved to ABOVE the original marking so as to be visible. Anyway, here's the provisional marking format:

    TELESCOPE STR L1A1
    V5/1240-99- 152- 2065

Note the V5 optical stores VAOS section = correct
    1240 and 99 = also correct
152 is NOT recorded as a part number identifier in the VAOS lists so confirms that it was PRE or before it was codified with an OS 2429 GA code - as on the codified L1A1 part number and section
2065 = 1 up from the 2063 and 4 numbers allocated to the production items or as is usual, earmarked for series production/conversion.

There, another bit of totally useless Enfield info

This is one of the very few i think i've seen on an L42, which was sold via Brian Dickicon.
