I just finished one of the trilogy by Rick Atkinson this one covers the N.Africa/Italyicon conflict "The Day of Battle". What happened there is nothing that I was led to believe. The 1st Div was there, regular army but the 36 and 45th were just untrained National Guard divisions and they died by the thousands. They were up against the Germans that had a lot of Ostfront veterans and were expert killers at defense warfare. These US divisions had civilian officers, guys who had the gas station on the corner or ran a business. It was a disaster landing at N.Africa. Sicily was just as bad in spite of relieving many of the officers. The landing at Salerno and Anzio turned into disasters as well. It was conflict run by politicians and egotistical Generals like Clark and Montgomery. Run up Italy to Rome caused 36,000 US casualties. This is just one of the little secrets that nobody wanted to hear. This author mixes in a ton of statistics that are not common knowledge. As an example the Germans had 66,000 locomotives, they had so many that it would have been possible to just drive them down to Monte Casino and abandon them. The numbers are stunning. I did my year in II Corps in 66-67 and the waste was ridiculous then, imagine what ww2 was like.

There is a lot of propaganda surrounding every war. We supported Stalin because he was killing 7 out of every 10 Germans throughout the war. They were doing the dying for us. Churchill held his nose and sent them aid. The US only declared war on Germanyicon after Hitler declared war on us. As far as the Czechicon already being pals of the Germans, After Germany's surrender they were ordered out of the country and were shot in the hundreds as they walked home to the ruined Germany.

Dave, thanks. Yes, it's written that all war is political. But I said the Austrians were willingly absorbed into Germanyicon (because they're both Germanic people). By the way, the English are also considered close genetic cousins, and I guess are Germanic people? Stalin killed 10s of millions in his holocausts. Our Ally that in the Yalto conference of Feb 1945 by Roosevelt and Churchill was granted those Eastern countries to communize as the dictator he was when they met. Which was the greater atrocity, Dave? A person can't compare the Czechs to that.

I said the Czechicon nation was a recent invention that was treating the majority German speaking population quite poorly. So the Allied European community obliged Germany taking back what made sense and to allow protections of those in that region. The Poles were doing the same to German speakers.

During the war Churchill and London were supporting the communists throughout the ET so long as they opposed the Axis powers, the same communists that mutilated Mussolini's corpse in public. Wholesome lot aren't they? Churchill couldn't hold his nose because he was the puppetmaster spearheading all that skullduggery, including pushing for America to enter the war.
But let's agree that America, before officially entering the war, was already in the war effort arming and supporting the communist Allies and non-communist Allies. We were arming the war effort without directly engaging in battle.
Churchill, like all politicians, was interested in self promotion and propagating a righteous legacy afterwards. Englandicon and Franceicon declared war on Germany starting the war. Revisionism rules the day by pointing blame the other direction.

After the Japaneseicon attack, Hitler declared support for his Axis partner against America. Prior to that he was stuck in a hard place trying to keep America from joining while knowing we were arming his enemies. Seems I heard that his personal train was even named America? That's a political move in anyone's opinion. I'm convinced that Germany tried multiple times to cease the war but it was the English who refused to stop the killing machines until they destroyed their European competition. They were so bent on it that they lost their empire. They sacrificed world reserve currency and Soros broke the Bank of England. All just to spite their neighbor. Now where are they? Seen London lately?

It's theorized that Hitler attacked the Soviets because the USSR was idle with hundreds of millions of people poised to wash across Western Europe into ALL war weakened nations.
