    My SIG 550's.

They are '80s import and in very nice condition. Both had been fired when I got them.

The 550-1 has a barrel with 1 in 10" twist rate while the 550-2 has a barrel with a 1 in 7" twist rate.

Both are equipped with optional Hensoldt ZF 6X42 Beta Light scopes mounted on SIG quick detachable mounts. The scopes have "Christmas Tree" special reticles that are calibrated for Swissicon GP90 ammo. To correctly use the scopes, each rifle has a SIG quick detachable cheek riser.

I keep each rifle ensconced in its own Meili rifle case with extra magazines, accessories, and documentation.

As you are well aware, I'm addicted to all this Swissicon stuff. I hang my head in shame.

To continue with the story: I got both of these rifles in used condition from different sources over the span of ten years. That is also true about the Meili rifle cases these rifles are now housed in. One case came with one key and the other came with no keys. That bugged me. I found Meili's contact information on the inter-web and sent them an email asking how I could purchase some replacement keys. About a week after I sent them that email, look what showed up in the mail. Now that's great customer care in my book.

Thank you. But, the rifles themselves are just the start of the SIG addiction. First you find the rifle, then you look for all the correct accessories. The large sized accessories (cases, scopes, magazines, etc.) are documented and with tenacity they can be found. The smaller accessories will take much more time to identify, locate, and acquire. You need to get a brass deflector and a brass catcher. Next you need to get a variable iris target shooting peep sight. The Swissicon Army pocket knives with sight adjustment tools can be found easily, but try to find a factory sight adjustment tool. Only a true SIG addict would pursue one.

Good morning Dan. I looked for my old records this morning but the file has so many things starting in the 70s that I couldn't locate the original invoices. I do remember bringing in 20 of these back in maybe 1982, and 10 were 550s and 10 were 551s. For the life of me I can't remember which one had a long barrel and which one had a short barrel. I think the 550 was the long barrel.

I was very fortunate when Frank found the rifle I now have. He was successful in finding every single conceivable accessory for this rifle and we haven't actually fired it yet. You already know the story of the scope and that was a very unexpected windfall. As for it being fired, that's not quite accurate as we did slurry seal the bore and fired one factory round within the two minute required wait period for ceramic sealing. I have 80 factory rounds here and broke down one of them to see if I could determine what we needed for reloading. The projectiles are 82 grain and it took me four months to find and bring in 1000 projectiles. If it had not been for Frank I never would've found them.

It took longer to get the brass, but we brought in 1000 of those as well. Frank had a friend who is an armorer and that gentleman identified the powder for us. When I found out what it was I could not believe it. It's under a different name than the Alliant imports from Switzerlandicon, and I can't remember it at the moment but we do have an entire keg of it in the armory. The surprising part is that is a common varmint powder here in the US. Unbelievable.

Great pair you have there, and I could kick myself many times over for having sold all of my inventory that came from Stoeger. When the last one sold I contacted my rep at Stoeger to bring in another 20 and that was the day I was told the door was slammed in there would be no more. I stormed around here for about an hour before I calmed down having realized it was highly likely I'd never see another one. I'm very glad to see that you have a pair and your interest is very strong. Congratulations

Did you get the diopters for them?
I'll look for some pictures of the ones I have.
