Nothing to do with brexit, but the sound.....

Found this while looking for a song the Coors did a cover for......not being bias but having an Engineers ear, the spitfire wins regardless.

But thats because that particular Spit is a glorious Griffon engine version, and the Fw190 is one of the new build Flugwerke 190's fitted with a nasty Chinese licence built version of the Russianicon Ash82 radial engine, so not quite the same sound as an original Fw190 with the BMW801 engine. The Ash82 is about the same capacity as the original BMW though at around 41 litres, so a bit bigger than the 37 litre Griffon in the Spitfire.

To my recording engineer's ears it mostly sounds like the difference between a radial and a V12 engine. Each has its attractions. The radial in this case idles at a lower speed giving it a chugga-chugga sound while the Griffon is smoother sounding at low RPM. The radials are always more throaty-sounding to me as well.

It's amazing the subliminal effect a certain sound can have on you.

The Merlin engine in particular makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

It's a beautiful, sublime sound, if victory has a sound, this is it....

I love the sound of the Focke-Wulf. Throaty, deep...
Sent the link to my dad and he told me the Spitfire sound raised the hair on his back.
When he was a kid, in 1944, he was strafed by one while going somewhere on his bike.
He jumped in a ditch and got out of this unscathed, but he really got frightened.
At the age of 9, I would understand it very well.
Hearing that sound now, 75 years later, the memory came back.

This is the sound a real, original Fw190 makes with its original BMW801 radial engine.

The only original and airworthy Fw190 in the world.

We've got two reproductions that are airworthy and an original that isn't but is completely original living down the road.

The original A-8. I understand there are plans to restore it.

    Airworthy Dora reconstruction

    Airworthy A-8 replica

Aah, Jerry Yagen's place at Viginia Beach.........

That means you are also lucky enough to be close to one of the 3 airworthy examples of one of WW2's greatest aircraft, the DH Mosquito.
