1914 Efurt Luger 4 inch barrel

I can't afford a Luger, period. So I've been saving up points and gift cards for several years at Cabelas and after spotting half a dozen that looked good that were already spoken for by the time I made the phone call, I found one tonight in one of my random checks. 9:33 here but it was in Wisconsin so different time zone. It was available and I have it being shipped to my local Cabelas.

1914 Efurt that has all visible matching numbers except the magazine. 4 inch barrel. Blueing is worn but looks original. Bore is said to look good, not new but not worn out either. Wood grips look good, some wear to the points of the checkering. I'm not after a mint one so it suits my purposes. I'm trying to get representative examples of the major firearms of the major combatants of WWI and WWII. I put on displays. Kind of hate buying things sight unseen and I haven't actually purchased it yet, just $25 to have it shipped. Appears to have an (a) suffix. I read that only about 7000 were produced that year so it's not a common variation.

Pretty excited though. I know very little about these other than what the proof marks for Germanicon acceptance look like. Isn't costing me anything in the end either so hard to beat that. Already have a WWI holster for it.

What should I look for when I can inspect it in person? What would be a deal breaker? Would like to be able to shoot it but may not ever do so.

It appears the extractor is an un-numbered replacement.

Well, I think you pretty much said it already. Serial matching (last two digits) should be on the toggle, rear sight link, breechblock, locking block, safety bar, sear bar, side plate, trigger, holdback bar and firing pin (might have missed a spot). Four-digits should match on the frame, barrel and barrel extension (frame and barrel also should have the suffix letter if any). If you plan on actually shooting it, functionality should be checked by a competent gunsmith beforehand. Other factors than the bore, operation by hand should be stiff but firm, the regions under the grips should be clean (not grunged up). Good luck- Erfurt ones had a lot of extra inspector stamps.

Hope its a keeper. If so please photo some photos. I have the opportunity to purchase my first luger ( the have always been too pricey for me)
at a reasonable price. I could use some inspiration to get me off the fence.

I was getting a bit worried. It was still showing as available but it's now changed to pending and moved from Wisconsin to my local Cabelas. I know it isn't physically there yet, won't be shipped until tomorrow but it's still pretty exciting. I'm hoping it will arrive before the weekend. I've had two other firearms transferred by them and the wait is a killer.

Credit card has been charged for the transfer so it's on it's way. These are the website photos. It won't win any beauty contests, blueing is worn as is the straw finish but I can't see any pitting on it, at least nothing significant and the bluing appears to be original. Extractor is the only thing that glares out as an issue. I expect it is over priced based on condition but as I'm not anything out of pocket on it, I don't care so much. I don't have the cash to buy one any other way right now. Curious as to what value you guys would place on it. I've been watching these for 3 years now and this is at the lower end of their typical pricing at $1200.00

Any import marks (under the barrel, perhaps)?

I think it unlikely there is an import mark. They didn't mention one and I can zoom in on the original photos large enough to see two numbers of the serial number on each side view. I also can see the entire back half of the barrel in one photo. I did spot some pitting on the left side of the barrel at about the mid point looking for the import mark.

It is in. Hopefully I will be able to go look at it/pick it up this evening. Without any advice to the contrary, I will most likely go through with the purchase unless inspection shows some problem with it. I have checked various Luger sales websites and Gunbroker sold items as well as two other auction sites and I don't feel the price on this is out of the ordinary, especially with it being a low run Erfurt model. It is just gift cards and points also and while I don't want to throw them away needlessly, paying a bit more for something at Cabelas is part of the trade off of using them. I will still have significant points left after this purchase.

A bit of a tangent. What do you think Of Cabela's after the Chinese Pro Shop merger? Just want to test my impressions with another long term Cabelas fan.
