Winchester model 12 serial number question.

    Good afternoon:
I am looking for some information on a reported Winchester model 12 trench gun.
The serial number is 1,004,349. Can someone confirm what year this was manufactured? And if this likely would have been an actual "trench gun" configuration when made?
    Thanks.
    Mike

Your Model 12 was manufactured late in 1946. I doubt that the Government would have been spending money on such items immediately after WW2.

Actually the gun was made circa late 1943. Many of published Winchester serial number date tables are off anywhere from two to seven years (or more).

Bruce, I believe it's earlier than that. According to the Winchester Polishing Room records, the serial number was applied to that receiver in Jan 1943.

OK, sometime in 1943 sounds promising. Anyway to confirm if it left the factory in the trench gun configuration?
