Egyptian Hakim...
Anyone have any experience with these? I've become interested in them and am seriously thinking about trying to hunt one down? What are your thoughts on the rifle? What are its strengths and weaknesses?

Conceptually I like them a lot. A Ljungman but in 8x57.
Never fired one, just seen one in a collection when I was picking up my P14 a few months back.
They seem to be good rifles and, if I weren't that allergic to semiauto (with the exception of a StG58 which I'll pick up in a couple weeks), I'd buy it.

Like Ovidio says, it's an AG42B in 8mm Mauser. $49 for a repro mag at Liberty Tree.
Not many around in decent condition any more. This one, in Alaska, at $899(ends in 45 minutes) and the other, in a Georgia Pawn shop, at $799, are the only 2 on Gunbroker.

The rifle is a contemporary of the M1 Rifle and if you don't pay attention will bite you the same way an M1 is rumoured to do. M1 Thumb is operator failure. The Hakim is just mean. Friggin' thing's action closes faster than an Egyptian cobra.
This is a fairly good article about 'em. Guns Magazine The Strange Egyptian Hakim - Guns Magazine

I completely understand... Outside of my one Garand that I don't shoot much, all my milsurp rifles are bolt action. There's just something about them. That said, there's something about Hakim and the Ljungman that appeal to me.
