    Griffin and Howe rail dimensions?

Due to the apparent lack of good repro No.32 scopes and the astronomical prices of original, I am considering taking my sniper build in a new direction.

Since the rifle I'm working with is a 1944 Long Branch No.4 Mk1*, and the decent availability of Lyman Alaskan scopes, I'm considering build a trade pattern sniper. There is very little information about the TP mounts, but they appear to be Griffin & Howe style, quick detach jobs. I am able to find plenty of Alaskans with the rings attached. I just need a base. I have a machinist friend that might be able to make it for me. I can approximate the profile from pictures, and I can do some match to determine dimensions. I just need the profile and dimensions of the rail.

So, can someone give me a rough sketch and some dimensions on the Griffin & Howe base rail? I'd appreciate it.

Years ago there were reproduction C67 "G&H" bases for sale on eBay from Italyicon. The maker of those might have done the earlier type as well.

When the late Pete Bloom turned up 30 TP scopes with their rings from Holland I got some bases made by my machinist, but they are all long since gone, & sadly the drawings Graham made of the base died with him. I can't remember exactly how long ago it was, but probably the mid to late 90's. I think I had about 15 to 20 made.

I'm just looking for the dimensions of the standard G&H rail so I don't have to pay $150 for a used one just to reverse-engineer the rail. I can find the commercial rings all over the place. I'm going to have a machinist make me something that resembles the original base but uses commercial rings.

BTW, Griffin & Howe is still in business, and they still make those mounts, including the ones for the M1C. The rub is that they cost $750.

If a rail is $ 150 you can buy and sell it later at (around) the same price. Just sayin..

This is what the guy in Italyicon provided - I just have a cheap scope mounted but it does very well.
