    Carcano M38 Flat Side Stock?

I recently bought a 7.35 finnish issue carcano rifle that's marked RE TERNI and 1939XVII. It has the SA mark and the stock has no cartouches or other markings. The stock is interesting though and not like the other M38s I have seen. It is "flat" sided around the receiver area - I attached some pictures. I cant find a picture of one of these with a stock like this. Does anyone know anything about this?
