    1:11 twist 22" Barrel Mauser

I'm loading for a Mauser in .308 Win that has a 22-inch barrel with a 1:11 twist. Has anyone here loaded for that combination before? my initial thought were Sierra 168 BTHP with Reloaded 15 but now after looking a number of the relading spec's not sure.

Be intrested in anyone experience and thoughts,

    Thanks, Bill

Yep, my M1a has a 22 inch 11 twist barrel and I shoot( or used to, dont do so much anymore) handloads using 168gr Hornady, Nosler and Sierra BTHP's over 40.5gr RE-15. Max is 42.0gr in the M1a IIRC but accuracy isnt as good as the lighter load.
Of the 5 rifles in 308 I still have, 3 hate it and the other 2 tolerate it. My go to powder for 308 was always IMR 4064. I had one load that gave good results in all my rifles at the time and 43.0grs pretty much duplicated Federal GMM.
IMR 4895 is a good choice too.

A friend gave me nearly 15 pounds of Re 15 most 20 years ago because neither of his Chandler M40a1's liked it and after Sandy Hook I ran out of IMR and couldn't find anymore so I worked up a load with the Re 15 and still have a bunch left.
With my interest in guns, shooting and hunting being almost nonexistent for several years now they may do me the rest of my days.

In all the reading I have been doing IMR 4064 seems to the powder that pop's up the most. I've used RE-17 with my .243 Win in 100 gr. BTSP Interlocks with great results so I thought I might get the same out of RE-15; Maybe not now. I appreciate the help and information.

Appearantly it does better with heavy bullets in 308. Seems I remember reading a magazine article 14-15 years ago that stated Alliant had won the contract to furnish powder for loading 7.62mm M118LR sniper ammo and RE 15 was selected.
I do know it's a very good choice for heavy 5.56mm loads. 24.0grs under a Hornady 75gr bthp is a really accurate load and so is 24.9grs under a 77gr smk, which duplicates the Mk 262 mod 0/mod 1 round.
