    Possible 50 Years Birthday Present

    Hello everybody,

today I was talking to a guy who sold me the UTG rail I installed on the STG58, and he suddenly tells me that he's about to put a Springfield 1903 on sale. A friend gave it to him for test and sale and now he is about to sell it, since he's not interested in older stuff.
The guy wants 1000€, which is a very low price for a 1903 here in Italyicon, either version.
This is a 1903 with the old tangent sights, my favourite, so I asked him if he would be willing to keep it until March, when I'd come and buy it as a present for my 50th birthday.
    Maybe he can...

    Now to my question.
The pictures are so and so (I will go and check the rifle in the coming days), but does any of you see something odd?
Something not ok on this kind/model?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Stock was repaired at the area of the rear tang. Could have been a tight fit and cracked the stock while shooting ?

Stock with pistol grip would be end of the twenties, correct?

early stock with pistol grip would have drawing number D-1836 behind pistol grip. WW2 stocks stock has a little different shape to the grip and later
stocks are inletted for both the 1903A1 and 1903A3

Three million serial number (3083538) makes it a Remington M1903... early 1942. They didn't come from the factory with full pistol grip stocks. Lot of modification / repair done to that stock.

I wonder if it's a complete parts gun...look at the fit of the rear sight at the barrel ring. That and the pistol grip stock added to the rifle...

The butt plate fit isn't right for that price. Fore end seems to be rounded over on the edges from enthusiastic sanding.

heavy sanded stock. springfield Mark1 cutoff spindle. Remington 1903, un marked barrel is suspect. buttplate is suspect. I would check the cal, of the rifle, before you fire it, I know 1903s are rare in Italyicon, however, a well known stock maker is located in Italy and you may be able to get a nice reproduction stock right from them. I would have the cal, and headspace checked before you fire the rifle
