    Pathe B17 Newsreel

Some interesting archive footage here of B17 Flying Fortresses. It would be interesting to know which airfield it is featured in the film but it could be one of many East Anglian wartime airfields.

Apart from being on the receiving end of Germanicon bombs, one of the other noteworthy things that my parents remember seeing and hearing during the war is the Britishicon and American bombers going out and coming back from bombing raids.

Lack of codes, and very early F model Forts, and the fact we get a quick shot of one of the Forts, named as Birmingham Blitzkrieg, and I would say this film was made at RAF Polebrook, with the 97th BG, for the USAAF's first ever raid over occupied Europe. This raid #1 took place on 17th Aug 1942, and Birmingham Blitzkrieg was one of the B-17's that flew this first ever mission to Rouen in Franceicon. The lead ship of this mission #1 was a B-17 named Butcher Shop, being flown by a certain Major Paul Tibbets.
Birmingham Blitzkrieg was transferred to 92BG at RAF Bovingdon a week later on 24th Aug, so clearly pointing to this film being made at Polebrook around the time of Mission #1.
