    Jap Ammo Box?

Acquired from my family's (in-laws) estate this Jap box, which appears to possibly be a Jap ammo box? Can anyone out there read what it says on the lid? The box measures approximately 5 1/2 x 11 x 13 1/2 and looks to be rather well made. Hinges look to be original. Looks like a previous owner put a set of brass hook-catches on the lid and a coat (of poly?) on the outside. Don't know if it has any historical or collector value but I was just curious as to what the writing says and what it may have been used for.

Thanks for any & all input! --728shooter

I used Google Translate on my phone...which is pretty spotty on stuff like this...but the consensus seemed to be it's a storage box for some sort of testing equipment. Perhaps an artillery range finder if it is indeed military.

If you've ever used this app you know it can bounce around a bit on what it thinks it's seeing. It's almost like you're talking to someone in a language you don't actually understand.
I definitely don't think it's an ammo box though.

I agree looks like a case I had years ago that had an artillery sight housed inside.
