Easier said than done, if that's duracoat it may need glass bead blasting to remove. I have a little Beretta 70 that was done and couldn't get it to lift after soaking in acetone...

Anyone tried paint stripper? The mean kind that burns your skin if you get it on you...not the environmentally friendly citrus stuff, of course.

Often firearms are sand blasted before they paint on duracoat. At least that is common.

I used to paint a lot of it for friends, because I used to paint cars, and I have a professional Trinco blast cabinet.

So I would spray them heavily with brake cleaner to clean the oil off, sand blast them, and then painted them.

I used to do a lot of cerakote too, which you would put in a oven to bake. Cerakote is way harder than even duracoat.

Thanks Steve for the note on the shims. I was not aware of these. I think I have found the correct shims, or I could probably make one, or two. I will wait until I get the scope mounted and see how it lines up. I see by the text you sent that they may be used in the front or back, depending on how the original scope lined up.

I also see now that the bolt I have is not right. I am looking for a proper one, or try to alter mine.

Yes it is. You can see the cutout in the stock under the bolt handle.

rattle can, will likely come right off with aircraft remover, I suspect recovered drill rifle. for sure worth bring back.. original parts can be had, but are pricey

I bought an 03A4 through the DCM in 1970 or '71. It came with two thin brass shims.

concerning the shims, I have found a set of two (apparently original) for sale on line. Also, Numrich offers them (new) in two thicknesses; .015 and .020. I intend to get the scope mounted and then see if and where they are needed.
