Talking Half bayonet - Half sword !!

I've got a lot of bayonets to go along with my milsurp rifle collection, but I've always loved this piece. What a mean looking mother and I've always thought it was more like a sword than a bayonet.

The command in the 1884 Manual of Arms for the Yatagan bayonet as used on the Martini Henry was "affix swords"

Awesome! (I've got the same one, or similiar, i believe their were 2 distinct versions). I bring it out when guests come over. They love it! It's a great way to get an evening started!

Nothing gets a party rolling like bayonetting the dullest guest and then sawing some boughs for the fire...

    Wicked looking item, indeed.

I'm also partial to the Britishicon Yataghan sword bayonets, originally intorduced in the 1850's for use with some of the models of muzzle-loading Enfields, then continued in use for the Snider-Enfield versions of same and also adapted ultimately to the Martini-Henry. As Wheaty has said, they were specifically referred to as "swords", at least in the Rifles regiments that they were issued to ....

I just finished typeing about how much I liked sword bayos on the swiss thread when I saw this one. Bayonets are making a comeback in todays armys not sword bayos unfortunatly but for transport of prisoners or keeping civies at a distance a bayonet is perfect.

In the mid to late 1800's many bayonets were swords of one form or another particularly for NCO's etc with the standard soldier getting a socket. Here's my favorite the Jacobs, 30" nearly of sword with a full basket hilt to fit on the end of a double barreled rifle (not a shotgun but two rifle barrels

In highschool I had a military history teacher that told us that "Fire enrages" (reffering to gun fire) and "Steel chills".
