Old neighbor lady asked me a question. 6.5-.06?

My old neighbor lady (she is 84) Found some of her late father's bullets in a bag from the 1940s. She showed them to me and asked me what rifle they went to. Her father passed away in the early 1960s and a relative took the rifle. I did not know what they went to, they were a 6.5 soft point on a 30.06 shell. The cartridges were Western Olin Brand marked 30.06 but she said he reloaded. Was there a 6.5-06 rifle manufactured back in the day or was it a wild cat home brew? all she could tell me was that it was a bolt action, which wasn't very helpful.

Wildcat cartridge. Probably reloaded necked down 30-06. Seemed to be well known about 80 years ago. Commercially known as 256 Newton

6.5-06! Only slightly less ridiculous than the .25-06. I remember reading about that in gun mags when I was a teen-ager. Something I might have gone for back in 1962. I'll bet the rifle was a high-number 03 with a Douglas barrel and Fajen stock.

My neighbor's late father was a serious outdoors man and adventurer in his day. His name was Gustav, born in Sweden in 1910, jumped on a tramp steamer at 14 and made it to Singapore, India and south Africa then back to Sweden. Mountain climber, hunter and logger. The guy was amazing. Some wildcat round 03 sounds like it was up his alley.
