    Cleaning rod 7.7x58 Arisaka

I bought a cleaning rod for my 7.7 jap. It is 21 1/2 inches long. When I put it into the hole for the cleaning rod it only goes in 2 inches and then screws into whatever is in side? I can't get the two pieces out of the hole. Not sure how this is supposed to work ! can anyone know how this is supposed to work??

    Thanks, Tom

What make and series Type 99 do you have? The early series rifles used longer cleaning rods while some of the later ones used a 5 inch cleaning rod. If you advise the make and series of your rifle, one of the experts can help yo determine which one is correct for you.

There usually is a square button you are supposed to press to release or to stow the cleaning rod a few inches behind the bayonet lug. try pressing it and inserting the cleaning rod and see what happens.
