A unique study of life in Buchenwald by a British officer prisoner there.

My attention was drawn to this book recently. It is the most remarkable book on the genre I have read, but seems to be little known.

Sobering, but fascinating reading; the author pulls few punches.

Yes, the author says that Koch "turned to his own kind" (ie: gender) and Ilse would pick out replacements from the prisoners; their next stop he said, was the always the crematorium. Mentions an entire "transport" of 8000 prisoners being shot by the Hitler Youth in Thuringia near the end of the war. He speaks freely about the gas chambers at Auschwitz and estimates deaths even then in a book published in 1945 in the millions. Not sure what the Irvings of this world make of that!?

75 years after the fact, these stories never fail to horrify and disturb Ron...

Given the right circumstances, like the vile regimes of the third Reich and Imperial Japanicon, the worst excess of Man's inhumanity to man are let off the leash.
