Unfortunately, not everyone sticks to the recommended social distancing guidelines in the 2 local supermarkets that I have visited.

In one of the shops that I visit it is not possible to keep to the recommended 2m distancing, because the isles are too narrow, less than 2m wide, and it is not possible to pass others in the same isle unless one of those wishing to pass their fellow shopper were to climb on top of the shelves which stretch the length of the isle and are around 2m in height. Of-course if this were to be done the shop would need to provide safety harnesses for customers to use so that one does not find one's self in contravention of safe working heights rules and regulations. Provision of ladders at each end of the shelves may also be helpful otherwise there maybe a tendency for customers to attempt "mountaineering" on the sides of the shelves which may result in some "perishable" goods being "soiled" by customers trying to get a "foothold" in the side of the shelves.

Not sure. I did a google search, but didn't find anything about things catching fire. For those who can take an hour, I think it will prove very worthwhile, perhaps even a life-saver for someone.

You might find this interesting though. "Warning: this is a heavy science based article with nearly 100 references to studies".

One month has passed since this thread started, and a few things have changed, while many others have remained the same.
Those that changed are really impressive: when this started, Italyicon was being hit hard, but still nothing compared to what came next. Most European countries, the US, Canadaicon, Australiaicon, South Americaicon...most of the rest of the world was still almost untouched and, in some cases, felt above the problem. Now most have opened their eyes.
Social distancing was just beginning, while now it seems that it always existed.
People have changed a lot. Plenty don’t even greet you anymore when crossing you on the road.
Masks, gloves and reclusion are the new rule.
Politically, we have now the proven proof that we’re mostly led by donkeys. Some by worse, others by sligthly better ones, but still donkeys everywhere.
The EU, as we have come to know it in the last 20-30 years is, IMHO, dead. Maybe, we’ll get back what we were dreaming of in the ‘80ies, a “light” Union, based on different cultures living in peace and harmony. But for shure, the bureaucratic golem has committed suicide. The process might take time, but they are the past now.
What remained the same is, mostly, the dumb approach to this crisis from politicians, intellectuals and opinion makers.
They all talk, talk, talk and...don’t seem to be able to say anything important.
Communication in times of crises is strategically important, but I can’t see an acceptable level of management of this issue anywhere, but maybe in Korea and Singapore.
All countries are repeating the same mistakes of those that preceded them in this tragedy. They wait, they attack those who want to take an early start in all the precautions calling them names and then...they try to hurriedly close the gate after the cattle is gone.
The bad communication brings lots of people on the verge of panic, buying up groceries and other items as if the world were to end tomorrow, while the experience of countries like Italy or Spain, if we want to stay in the western world, could be used to calm people, preventing such situations.
Everywhere the deafening background noise covers the voice of those who are more competent, making it impossible for people to get credible information. Particularly, some clear statements about the expectable time-frame of this world-wide lock down. On how the recovery phase will be.
Another few things struck me in these last couple days.
Today, for example, one of our illegal immigrants who roam our town just rode by on his bike and rang our bell. He’s an elder guy, and knows he’ll get help here, but why can he go about freely when I would be stopped, questioned and heavily fined if I were doing the same thing? How come that these people are not kept in a safe place, fed and isolated from the others, like we all are. Friends of mine in Milan send me videos of arabic immigrants playing soccer on the empty streets, without any police stopping them. But if Italians leave home, they are most surely questioned...
Another thing I noticed is that, apparently, we have the means for controlling the roads and people. For controlling the territory. So, why do we use them en-force now against normal people, and don’t use them the same way in normal times against lowlifes?
Here, many bureaucratic things had to be done in person, going to offices, losing time, spending money, and suddenly everything is possible online... Did it really take a pandemic to achieve that?
I am a honest citizen, never broke the law, always respected the institutions, the laws and everything, but since more than a month, I have been deprived of some basic human rights, first of all the freedom to move. Without even a formal vote from the parliament.
    Is that acceptable?
So, after one month, I’m not much wiser than I was before, other than for the fact that I’m starting to believe that we citizens have no real power, no freedom other than that, which is graciously conceded by those who rule our countries.
And if in the past it wasn’t that different, we now have a much worse level of politicians, and a much more dangerous and pervasive kind of state, which could, and is already partially doing it, deprive us of all our freedoms without a possibility for us to prevent it...

I know, I’m ranting. Sorry for that. But tonight, so many things come to my mind, that I’m struggling to keep the logic.

Be safe and healthy, and see you on the other side of this.

Here in the US, they are once again revising the numbers of expected fatalities. We are now UNDER the annual flu deaths at 50,000. Now that may seem high but to us, it isn't. And the remarkable thing is deaths from heart disease, pneumonia, and the flu etc have plummeted to almost nothing. In other words, we have no real idea of how many of these deaths are actually from Covid 19. If it is even suspected, without confirmation, that they had Covid 19, it is listed as cause of death whether it was the cause of death or not. And with the government guarantee of payment for Covid 19 treatments, it makes sense to the health care facilities to list it as such to ensure payment.

I hate to say it but it's possibly looking like this is a huge panic that could have been controlled a whole lot better than with a complete shutdown of our economy. Enforced distancing and masks with isolation of the most vulnerable and perhaps a relatively normal life could have continued. It's not the politicians here that are dictating it, it's the health care advisors. Small numbers of people are starting to get angry and I expect that number to grow as this progresses. Peak numbers for NY are expected today, Peak numbers for PA in six days Peak for NY is expected at 878, peak for PA is 32. Peak numbers for the entire US in seven days.

The media is talking an 8 month shutdown. I'm thinking April 30th. Time will tell.

And for the record, I'm not one of the angry ones. I'm content to wait this out. Come May, that may change.

The numbers are unclear, I agree totally. Also here in Italyicon, every person that has Covid and dies is listed as Covid victim. We don’t have any way yet of finding out if people die with or from that damned virus. And this is a real discriminating issue.
That will, sooner or later, bring more and more people on the brink of rebellion, because in the end, people feel abused. As you say in the second part of your post.
That is a strong confirmation that clear, unbiased communication is paramount. The fact that the health care advisors might be those pushing for the messing up of the data to make Covid look more serious than it is, relates to the very different system you live in. But a good political class should be able to put an end to such a possible abuse.
The situation is somewhat unique, but people deserve a much more respectful treatment by those in charge.

There may be a new world order after this some things may remain the same but in the long run this crisis will do allot of damage to countries for generations.
I will give full credit to our state premier who has stood by his word and basically cut us off from the rest of Australiaicon by a hard border lock down as well as inside that regional zone lock downs as well, but as usual there are some things that beg one to understand how others comprehend this situation the world is facing.
We have people flouting the law going out of regions, social distancing then what does that mean for some as they walk right on top of each other, we have horse trainers training their horses still at the race track and there is a fair few trucks when I go past there at 05:20 every day, they still have racing carnivals without the crowds but again a group of way more than 2 people.

People still panic buying and TP is a rare thing to see anywhere nowdays, petrol has dropped in some places to around (Perth) 85-90 cents/liter a saving of almost 50 cents a liter we have had no reductions in the bush, fuel companies are saying some servo's may shut, well said now people will panic buy fuel some are already filling up fuel pods which if you store it at home it can affect your insurance if for some reason it catches alight burning your house down.

On a sad note the husband of that lady could have seen her as there was a special clause in the Covid act that could have allowed him to be by her side but a legal expert railroaded the request it would have meant his soul mate would have been at peace in passing had he been there.
Then on the flip side we have a Victorian man breaking his hotel quarantine up in Perth West Au 5 times going into public using public transport to walk about nare a care in the world twice going to his girlfriends house to dip his wick with no regard for anyone, he is now in jail his bail refused and looking down the barrel of a $50K fine or 12 months in jail or both good riddance I say let him rot in jail.
We are coasting here keep the cars fueled having a variety of meals my wifes mother gave us allot of whiting fillets the other day we had some already yummo! life is simple if you have a place like this where objectiveness is the way not some tarted up report designed to create misinformation to people, I go to work (Lucky) and come home and thats it, I have a demanding Siamese that misses me during the day and pesters me no end for "Make up time".

To all be safe and take care.

I see. That's not a problem we seem to have here, thankfully, or at least not yet.
Regardless, despite the lack of coverage in the mainstream media, there are obviously very real concerns about this technology on the part of many very qualified and responsible people.
And that to me raises very serious concerns; clearly we the public need to inform ourselves in short order about this as best we can.
It is easy and tempting to turn away from discomfiting issues, but nothing is solved by doing so.
We are very used to being able to pursue our own interests while leaving policy to the politicians, but this is clearly too important for that, as someone once said about war and generals.

Here’s a handy primer on the subject.
I’ll summarize though for those less inclined to read/listen:
5G has absolutely no risk of harming anyone in anyway at all.

You should be more concerned about your microwave.

    5G: Upgrade or Uncertainty?

You should be more concerned about your microwave.
Did you review the site I linked to above or view any of the videos or evidence presented?

If so, what did you think of those?

I don't know about information shopping at "skeptoid" but countless thousands of times you see people refer to "snoopes" as some sort of authority on controversial issues.

A little investigation shows that site to be a couple of left-wing couch surfers in CA presenting their take on reality as fact; the only evident fact per se is that a large numbers of people look for one-stop answers that suit their pre-existing biases or outright laziness.

I had a look at the site you link to; for a site devoted to "scepticism" (yes, we spell it that way) everything of course has to be viewed through the same lens, and debunking "Siberian Hell Sounds" and "Sleep Walkers"...personally I don't need any help with that.

I'm not sure how much research you did on the man who signed the article, but here's a start

Let's just say I'm not overly impressed by his veracity; how about you?
