    Arisaka value questions

Hey gents- I'm trying to help a neighbor find out what exactly she has and a rough estimate of value. I know less than nothing about Japaneseicon rifles from WW2. So, hopefully you guys can tell me a bit about these. One gentleman was kind enough to tell me this is a 99? And the stock might not be correct? Anyway, I have no skin in the game. It's my neighbor's rifle, so you won't hurt my feelings, but with the full mum, I told her it may have some value to it.

    Thanks!

It's a T99 alright but I dont know enough about them to say whether or not the stock is correct for that series or not.
It's not in original condition, i.e. missing parts, so that alone cancels out any extra value the mum may have added, IMO.

There is a tiny little mark behind the serial number. It would be very helpful if you can get a clear shot of that right side up. That's the series number. It will tell us what parts if should have. The stock looks OK to me but it may have been sanded. It doesn't seem as "thick" of a finish as I'm used too but if it's a later war rifle, that may be normal. It is missing at least three screws that I can see which would not be difficult to replace. Not sure if it's missing anything else. It's possible it should have a monopod, anti aircraft sights and a dust cover but if late war, it would not.

She has a 24th series rifle made at the Kokura Arsenal. This rifle would not have a mono-pod, but rear band is correct style. As mentioned the front band has been removed and the nose cap re-installed backwards. The screws can be found fairly easily.
Now the bad. The bolt handle has been bent down slightly. I would lay money on the stock having been replaced with a Nagoya stock ( the photo of the butt stock is to dark to see if it is angle/spliced). The grain just screams Nagoya. If you have a good photo of lower proof marks on butt stock, that will tell as well.

OK, thanks for the info! She took the rifle back over to her house so I'll have to get it back over here and take some more pics. I just don't know anything about these rifles, and don't want to see her get taken if she decides to sell it. The rifle was originally her fathers, but she doesn't know anything about it. So, no BS "Admiral Hirohito personally gave this to my dad" stories...

It also seems to be missing the mag spring and follower along with the floor plate catch.

The rifle can be worth from 300 with missing parts. Too about 500 with all the parts. All depends on what it looks like in hand. The market on Jap rifles, is all over the place right now. If all correct it can be a real nice price.
