    FN-49 Ven Strange Scope Mount

    Hey gents,

I bought this strange "scope mount" that apparently was popular in the 70's for FN-49's with the dovetail cut out. I understand that no Venezuelan contracts were ever setup as snipers but I figured if theres no permanent modifications required, a period appropriate scope might help with my temperamental eyesight.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how excatly this could work. I mounted it to the dovetail and it fits perfectly snug but beyond that I am lost. I've never mounted telescopes to my rifles so this would be a first for me. Do you think there are some special rings involved for this? The echo mount makes sense, this does not.

Thank you all for your help. It's very much welcomed and appreciated.

Looks like this is the complete setup. Anyone have any idea who made these or where one could track down the top bracket?

Wayne Johnson responded to another thread I made for this and the full setup is on page 242 of his book. Looks like I have a long road ahead of me to find that additional piece.

If you're not particularly concerned about the historicity of a mount but just want to scope your rifle, I'd abandon this mount and buy a new SK mount. That would be a much easier search!
