72L Longbranch with Griffin and Howe mount

I would be very interested in any comments regarding the rifle and mount. From what I have read the G&H mounts were put onto 74L rifles.

Is this legit, were there 72L rifles?

    Many thanks

I've got very definite opinions about it Roy, but there are forummers better acquainted with LB production than I, so I'll see what they say first!

Scope looks like a Kahles scope.

Edit: use Google picture search for "Kahles Helia 2L2". That looks exactly like the scope in your pictures.

Finally found a link where a picture in full size is visible ... https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-us/a...4-a5b300ef1dfd

There are no known LB snipers in the 72L block (not even experimental).

The engraving for the serial number on the spring bar is an obvious fake.

the base mount is (in my opinion) 95% probably fake.

    that makes the rifle fake.

the butt is wrong for a production or trials LB.

I am interested in seeing more of the rings - it is possible that they may be the only real part of this enshamble.

Ditto. (I was waiting for Lee Enfield's or Warren's view).

It looks like someone tried to make a haphazard fake of a Long Branch experimental. Having handled a couple of them up close and personal, I can tell you that it’s not even close. The workmanship of the originals is exceptional. Just look at the buggered screw heads. Not even close.

Not one of the Italianicon reproduction bases even; those were nicely made.

    Good plinker or deer rifle?

These days a nice Long Branch No.4 like that could be $800 CAD easily. Not sure what that would be worth, but extra holes drilled in don't usually add value.

Sorry if that is bad news.

There seem to be several outfits in the UKicon keen to peddle various "lash-ups".

Some admit what they are and some pretend not to know.
