Would be convenient when teaching slope arms from the order...present arms from the shoulder...

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... No, not the same mag as the Mk.I. The Lee Metford carbine was based upon the Mk.II Metford receiver, introduced in 1894 with the wider double stack magazine.

Quick question, how does one go about adding or subtracting the chain link? (Without breaking it)

    Thanks,
    Tony

I too, have a MLM MKI* that is missing it's magazine. Been on the hunt for one for quite some time.

So in the meantime, I made one. Apex had a sale on SMLE MK 3 mag bodies, so I ordered two. I cut them both in half and removed a section from the middle (I forget exactly how much). I then removed the reinforcing rib (intact) from one of them, then proceeded to TIG weld the three parts together. I am a horrible welder with thin metals; body work was never my forte. Thick steel and a MIG? no problem. I have a bad habit of burning through thin steel. So this was my best effort.
I had an old beat-up AR-15 magazine, so I cut a section from that, and was able to crudely form a follower that somewhat mirrored an original follower. I also used a piece of the AR follower spring for my franken-magazine.

The mag solidly locks in place and does feed four rounds, so it beats single loading at the range. It's a stop-gap until I can find an orginal one.

I often wondered if you could do that with a #1Mk3 mag, maybe take a section out to thin it. Well done...
