Ross 1905 Mark 2 ** Civilian Target Rifle

Any information about Ross 1905 Mark 2 ** Civilian Target Rifle in .303 Britishicon with serial number 5,000, very nice wood and possibly a presentation rifle would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to find out if there are any records of owners of civilian target rifles, presentation rifles and any matches those rifles might have been used in.

    thanks,
    Flintlock 50

    Long stock? Short stock?

Regular bayonet standard or long bayonet standard?

    Rear sight on barrel?

    Which target sight?

Ross 1905 Mark 2 ** Civilian Target Rifle

Rifle has BSA Martin rear sight, full length stock, 30.5" barrel so Ross bayonet will not reach to bayonet lug on barrel; rear sight mount is on barrel but sight itself has been removed in favor of the BSA.

    Thanks for your interest....

Ross 1905 Mark 2 ** Civilian Target Rifle

Thanks for pictures. Mine has same sight base on barrel and same BSA rear sight. Wood is similar and metal looks in similar condition as well....Thanks for pictures. Does anyone think that the serial number of an even 5,000 might mean a presentation rifle?

I am new to this site, but when I can figure out how, I will post some pictures of my rifle.

    Thanks!

Am I the only one who has trouble viewing the 85-picture photo montage? The link just takes me to the same 3 pictures in another thread. I went to the Knowledge Libraryicon, assuming the montage was there, but......nope. Is there a secret handshake, perhaps?

Anyone wanting to see the Ross Mark 2 ** Civilian Target Rifle with serial number 5,000 can go to Photo Gallery on this site, type in Ross and you should see my rifle under username of Molly Dog. I posted those pictures several years ago, sadly, Molly the dog went to Llewellin Setter doggie heaven 4 years ago. But, I still have the rifle for now and am now registered with username of Flintlock50.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately, unless it is a presentation rifle with a butt placard, it is almost impossible to trace where the rifles went to/came from. Particularly with the civilian models which do not have the unit designations that the military targets have, instead only having the barrel serial number is most cases. I went onto the Ross Rifle Forum to look at the serial number list. Unfortunately, serial 5000 is not listed, with a gap in numbers between 4997 and 5025. Your rifle is not a presentation grade rifle, though you should note the civilian targets often had higher grade wood than the military targets.
